Quantum computing, AI, cyber and blockchain get boost from Hammond’s Budget

Quantum computing, artificial intelligence (AI), cyber security and blockchain were the ‘winners’ in terms of technologies to benefit from Chancellor Philip Hammond’s Budget yesterday.

While Hammond’s Budget speech only skated over technologies, the accompanying Budget Red Book gave details of future funding for a range of emerging technologies.

A reference in the Red Book said, “The Budget sets out a vision for an economy driven by research and innovation, and announces a further £1.6bn for R&D funding. The government is providing additional funding to support the Industrial Strategy Grand Challenges and secure the UK’s position as a world leader in new and emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), nuclear fusion, and quantum computing.”
