Two North Carolina bomb squad agents injured after explosive materials blew-up during the search of a man’s home


Two North Carolina bomb squad agents were injured during the search of a man’s home after he was pulled over for having homemade explosives in his car.

The State Bureau of Investigations (SBI) agents were assisting Sampson County Sheriff’s Office investigate a rural area southeast of Raleigh when the materials exploded on Friday.

Assistant Special Agent in Charge Timothy Luper and Special Agent Brian Joy were both taken to a burn center in Chapel Hill.

Joy was said to be in a critical condition when he was airlifted and Luper also injured in the blast was transported later. Both men are now said to be in a stable condition.

They were assisting after Dunn-resident Jimmy Tyndall, 33, was pulled over for speeding. After an investigator’s dog detected narcotics, deputies said they also spotted an explosive device in the passenger’s seat.
