PSNI seek leads on ‘New IRA’ bombers a year after ‘cowardly’ attack


The detective leading the investigation into the attempted murder of an off-duty police officer in a botched bomb attack in Derry a year ago this morning has reiterated his belief that the ‘New IRA’ was responsible. Detective Inspector Peter McKenna described those who placed a bomb under the officer’s car as it stood in his Ardanlee driveway on the night of February 21/22, 2017, as “cowards”.

A year to the day since the murder attempt, DI McKenna recalled the officer had been at home with his family when the Improvised Explosive Device (IED) was placed under his car during the hours of darkness.
