Chemical industry outreach workshop held for first responders

About 20 explosions rang out Thursday afternoon at the DuPont Employee Recreation Club off West Virginia 892, but they were all planned and under control of the FBI.

The federal law enforcement agency teamed with the companies based at the Washington Works site – owner Chemours, along with DuPont and Kuraray – to hold a chemical industry outreach workshop Thursday.

“It’s meant for chemical industry professionals, laboratory (personnel), academia … fire response services, firemen, hazmat teams and law enforcement,” said Special Agent John D. Large, weapons of mass destruction coordinator for the FBI’s Pittsburgh Division.
