Wanted! Protection for telecoms infrastructure


Five years after its introduction as a solution to incessant vandalisation of telecommunications facilities across the country, a bill seeking to declare telecoms infrastructure as critical national infrastructure has remained in limbo. Yet, the incidences of vandalism, indiscriminate shutting of base stations, digging up of cables, which the bill seeks to address, have continued unabated with the attendant results of poor quality of services for the over 160 million telecoms subscribers in the country.

All these are in spite of the fact that the sector is currently running short of the needed infrastructure to achieve quality and ubiquitous telecommunications services access.
